My health was slipping, my patience was thin, and I didn’t like the man I was becoming. Not for my wife. Not for myself. Not for the family I hope to have one day.

So I made a significant change.

One thing about me… I don’t usually ease into things. When I make up my mind, I jump in with both feet. I’m more of a cliff diver than a toe-dipper.

So when I shared with my wife, Esme, that I felt God was calling me to trade in my steady career in tech to farm full time, she didn't bat an eye.

Farming has become my way to reset. It gave me space to rebuild my health, find joy again, and start learning what it looks like to live at God’s pace instead of my own.

But while my career shift may look sudden, farming has been sown into my family for generations.

My grandfather, Emilio Sr., was a corn & cotton farmer in El Salvador before he moved his wife and three kids to the United States to escape a civil war and build a better future for his family.

And my dad, Emilio Jr., studied agriculture and always has had a unique interest for animals. But when God opened the door to ministry, he chose that path instead. Watching him give up something he loved taught me what it means to follow God fully.

Now, in a way, we all get to farm together. My grandfather still offers wisdom from his years in the field, and my dad, though still in ministry, lends his hands when he can.

Through their life and leadership, I’ve come to learn that everything is a gift from God. Family, work, land, animals, even breath.

And gifts are meant to be cared for, not used up.

That’s why industrial farming grieves us. It pushes for profit at the expense of soil, animals, and people.

Worst of all, most large-scale farms go against God’s perfect design.

For us, farming is all about obedience and trusting that God's way is always better.

When animals live the way He intended, when soil is allowed to heal, and when food is raised with care, people are healthier in body, mind, and spirit.

In many ways, this all connects back to design. I’ve been designing since I was 14 years old. For decades, I made things I thought looked good.

Along with the farm, we run a design and development studio that serves non-profits, churches, and small businesses. We also share reflections on Christ’s words through a free devotional called Jesus Spoke.
